Jurgen Klopp is on the verge of a major cull at Liverpool with up to eight players facing the axe.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are set to beat rivals United to the signing of Colombian starlet Marlos Moreno.

And Chelsea fear they too will lose out to Arsenal in the race for Spain and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

Chelsea have made a late bid to snatch Axel Witsel, writes Neil Moxley in the Sunday People.

They are hoping to beat Liverpool and Everton to the Belgium international Witsel’s signature after talks stalled this week.

The London Blues have been waiting on the sidelines after People Sport last week revealed interest by the two Merseyside clubs in the Zenit St Petersburg midfielder.

However, while they have dithered, Roman Abramovic has thrown Chelsea’s weight behind a deal.

Georginio Wijnaldum is at the centre of a bidding war as interest in the Newcastle midfielder hots up.

The Holland international was told last week by Toon boss Rafa Benitez that he will have to stay at St James’ Park unless the relegated Magpies’ £25million valuation is met.

But Liverpool and Everton are interested in 25-year-old Wijnaldum – and Tottenhamhave now thrown their hat into the ring, too.

Benitez had planned to ask former club Liverpool for Jordon Ibe in part-exchange this week in a swap deal that would have seen £10m-plus heading to the north-east.

However, Bournemouth’s straight cash offer for Ibe has put paid to that, and the Tynesiders are now hoping for around £30m for Wijnaldum.

Juan Mata has been offered to Juventus in a bid by Manchester United to land £100million-rated French midfielder Paul Pogba.

New Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho is willing to sacrifice playmaker Mata to grab former United starlet Pogba in a world-record deal with the Turin-based Serie A champions.

The Special One sold Mata to the Red Devils for £37.1m in January 2014 when he was Chelsea manager, believing the Spanish international didn’t possess the physicality and dynamic presence he wanted in his midfield.

And those close to Mourinho claim that opinion hasn’t changed, meaning the 28-year-old star is on borrowed time in Manchester.

Pep Guardiola made his peace with Yaya Toure by telling the midfielder that he needs his help to bring Barcelona to Manchester City.

Midfielder Toure has been one of City’s most important players since Guardiola allowed him to leave the Nou Camp for the Etihad in a £24million deal six years ago, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and two Capital One Cups.

It seemed certain, though, that the 33-year-old would leave when it was confirmed his former Barca boss would become City manager.

But newly-appointed Guardiola has assured Toure he is a key element in his plans because he understands the football philosophy he first implemented in Catalonia.

A source close to Toure said: “The first thing Pep said to Yaya was that he will be a big player for him – on and off the pitch.

“Yaya is the only City player who has worked with Pep and he can help the rest of the squad understand the style of play that they will be asked to play.

“Yaya was happy to be told that he is part of the plan. He has never had a personal problem with Pep. In fact, when he was leaving Barcelona to join City, Pep told him that he wanted him to stay.
